I have a Datsun Sunny (it's turbo) that has cost me a grand total of about $3500 so far and does 0-100 (KMH which is comparable to your 0-60 MPH) in a rough low 5 seconds and covers 400mtrs in the low 13seconds......I'd say value for money to performance that makes your car look not quite so super.

I've got a moped that does around 95kmh top speed that I ride to and from work - and fark me it's hardcore round corners and up the middle of traffic at that speed on 10inch rims! It has a 70cc upgrade piston and barrel, full exhaust with carbon can, upgraded transmission and front brakes and is about to get some new suspension. :D Best part is it still only costs a few bucks a week in petrol! :D

Love the skyline GTR's tho. Dont mind the rx7s either, or a 200x boosted. Supras with twin turbs are orf the richter too. Sometimes do the night course around tokyo. Imagine 18/20 rice burners doing up ta 240 km on the highway-no emergencu stopping lanes, cutting n and outa traffic changing lanes and merging onto other highways at 160km plus. Tiz a fargin superrush.
Used ta work at Nissan-and was lucky enuff to take a new Z for a spin around the track.

you can pick up a wrx half cut for around 3 grand. The engine is called a EJ20T. They are the same as the liberty. Liberty half cuts are a bit cheaper around $2,500.

You wouldnt bother though with the gearbox as you wouldnt want 4WD. Purely because it is too much reenginerring. So you would have to hook it up to another box.

I know a few people have put the toyota soarer/lexus v8 4.0 litre in the luxes without much trouble. You can pick them up for around $2 grand in a half cut.

Personally I would throw a 1GGTE supra 2.0 litre turbo engine in. Straight six. You can pick them up for around $800 from the wreckers. Then hook it up to a supra 5 speed. Cheap conversion.

There is a gemini with the same engine with about 500hp running standard internals.

WRX and Liberty engines are not exactly the same - yes a WRX has the EJ20T, Liberty's on the other hand although they had an EJ20T were very very different and were actually superseded by the WRX EJ20T. (which was almost a new engine bar the flat four config).
Jap import Liberty's also came with an EJ20TT version unless you are talking the latest generation Liberty (2003 onwards) which is also an EJ20T but detuned compared to a Rex with different heads and cams (same as a Forester - they make more torque but less overall power) - you definitely won't pick up a latest gen engine or halfcut for $2500 though.

As for 500hp in a Gemini on standard internals on a 1G - let go of your cock champ otherwise you might just strangle it to death!

Maybe you mean a 1JZ-GTE in which case 500hp is possible although on the limit for stock rods/pistons. A 1G-GTE with stock internals would be lucky to get to 300hp without flying apart...same as an RB20 (R32 Skyline engine) - they are 2ltr straight sixes but you would never get past 350hp on stock internals and they are on par if not more robust than the 1G. And if you had spent the money to get a 1G to make 500hp you would put it in something better than a Gemini.

Your right you wont find a new gen EJ20T for $2,500 and they are not exactly the same as liberty. But they are the same engine configuration. you can definetly get pre 2000 EJ20T's for under 3 grand.

The first thing you would do with a EJ20TT is throw both turbos away and put one big single one on. What engine do you have in your sunny boy? I am guessing CA18.

Spot on with the Lib twins as well - I nearly bought a Lib TT 2 months ago but ended up with the Volvo but all the advice I was getting was to flick the twins and get a nice single.

My Datto (Sunny Boy.....haha!) is more old school than a CA18 - it runs a Z18ET. These are around the time just before the FJ20 came out. They are a single cam EFI turbo running a T03 (same as FJ) and are 1.8ltrs - basically an older CA18!! Old technology but the thing is built like a tank engine and can handle shitloads of boost and abuse!! Not so fast at the moment - was running 22psi and managed to destroy my clutch shifting hard into 3rd. :( It's a twin spark engine too so it is the Japanese V8!! :D

standard 5.7l v8 will run 11 to 12L per 100km's highway driving, let alone in the city. it may not seem like much when u still only fill up once or twice a week, but thats cos the fuel tanks hold up to 80 litres. they eat fuel like nothing else. whereas a 4cyl turbo will run approx 9 to 10L per 100km. everything depends on how you drive it of course though and what fuel u run. Optimax goes the best but with quality comes price. The higher the 'ron' of the fuel the better quality and more power / fuel efficiency you will get.

well either u have a big fuel tank or u do a lot of highway driving. mate 600km out of anything is a solid amount. dad's statesman does about 450km a tank but 600km if highway driving, mum's sp23 does about 450 and mine does about 380. so there you go. Basically its hard to distinguish and compare different cars without taking into account the type of driving they do, e.g. city or highway, type of fuel they run, and the power. carrying heavy loads also changes the measurement.

for your mate to get only 200km out of a tank he must flog it pretty damn hard. the standard fuel tank size for a WRX is 60 litres. plus the engine is a 4 cyl turbo, horizontally opposed multi-point injected DOHC that churns out 168atwkw with a standard fuel consumption of 10L per 100km.

so for you to say turbo's eat up fuel more than ur vu ss your shitting yourself. cos if a 4cyl turbo is running 168atw and doing 10L per 100km then u must be doing a lot more than that with double the cylinders and 255atw.

Nah it seems ok, though have found that some bought CD's skip for some reason, remedy is to copy them and they play fine.
Heat is the biggest prob. I think the compression of MP3's is so hi that the laser works o/t to read it therefore it heats up. May need to add some ventilation to the back of ya system> Does yr head unit have a decent heat sink on the back??

yeah the louder u run it the more power thats needed so the head unit will heat up. Put a computer fan in behind it with some air vents, that should help heaps. An amp will boost the sound quality and take some load off the head unit too. Reckon cutting would have some ideas, he's the musicologist hahaha

cutting dont take those fuel efficiency numbers too literally, they are determined in conrolled conditions in a perferct environment. ie highway driving fuel economy is determined at driving 80km hr - who the fvck drives that slow on the highway?

I drive a 5L v8 which gets me 550km to a tank on the highway. Around town ill get 380km sometimes 250km depending on how I drive. Its not just the size of the engine but the revs it pulls and the amount of fuel its sucking. So from this you can see that my v8 which boogies at 4000rpm (5 if im caning it) will use just as much as a turbo hitting 8000 (and the v8 still wins :lol: )

To clear this up, it doesnt make much difference if a 4 cylinder or 8 cylinder is turbo or not (in regards to fuel economy). It only matters when you are on boost and more fuel needs to get pumped in. Off boost the fuel consumption is very similiar to non turbo.

To prove this, I know a twin turbo 900hp VY SS ute which runs 7.8l per 100km!! (on the highway). Purely because the car is set up so efficiently and it is cruising off bost.

For cutting, a standard WRX doesnt have 168kw at the wheels. It has 168kw at the fly wheel. And sunnycoast a VUSS are bitches on fuel consumption.

The V8 and Turbo debate is stupid. One one hand v8's sound tougher and have more power and torque down low. And on the other v8's chew more fuel, turbo's are cheaper to modify and drift better.

I still think nothing beats the sound of that v8 revving up in 2 fast 2 furious.

cutting - swap the AFM and ECU every now and again hey?? Love to hear the logic behind this one. An AFM is a metering device inline with the air intake of the vehicle and sends a voltage signal to the ECU with the measure or volume of air passing it. They are only ever changed when it becomes a flow restriction in a modified engine or if changing engine management (ECU) either to upgrade for better tuning resolution or get rid of them all together for a MAP sensor system. Once in and the ECU is tuned for best air/fuel/spark you don't go changing it every now and again(unless you modify the engine - bigger injectors, bigger turbo etc) nor would you change the AFM at any time unless you were upgrading the engine further and it was a bottle neck to airflow (or it was rooted!)

And if turbo's have poor fuel economy - can someone explain why I can get 300kms on the highway from $15 in fuel in my turbo 5 cylinder Volvo without having to drive like a grandma??

I don't think so buno - the Volvo is still just a multi valve, twin cam engine and in fact it would use more petrol than a SR20DET being that the Ovlov is 2.3 litres and is carrying at least a 400-500 kg weight penalty compared to a 180/Silvia, plus it has to drive an AWD system.

My point was that saying a turbo will use more petrol than a V8 because of sitting on boost off boost is bullshit. Properly set up a turbo car can be as good and in many cases better from a fuel efficiency point of view than a regular naturally aspirated engine of any capacity and configuration. It all comes down to how efficient the engine is (partly design, partly set up and tuning) and how effectively it can utilise the air/fuel/spark mix to produce a combustion stroke.

I use cruise control on the highway so the car does the grandma driving for me! :)

ronny - if your headunit is overheating it is probably time for a new, better quality one. particularly if its pioneer. Some pioneer head units dont have anti-skip, so no doubt u will get plenty of skipping no matter wat type of cds u play on rough or uneven surfaces in the car. You can also have problems if the amp is better or worse quality than the head unit and vice versa. It may suit to get a bigger battery or even a second one and a capacitor. playing mp3s in a poor quality head unit even if it is designed to play them, requires more power for it to read and play the mp3.

rule of car audio - stay away from brands like pioneer, sony and JVC, their markets are aimed at the consumers who are after cheap shit. plus many dont know but pioneer dont make their own audio equipment anymore and havent for a while, they got bought out i gather and all of the stuff they sell now is re-badged. i was looking at pioneer for my system but when i found this out i stayed right away from it, plus the quality is shit compared to the mor expensive brands. Got myself $1000 system by Eclipse with headunit, 2 6x9's in the rear shelf and 2 6" components in the front and it hammers.

The top of the line car audio brands here in Oz atm are Alpine, Eclipse, Rockford Fosgate, Phoenix Gold, Focal, Arc Audio and Fusion. Particularly Eclipse and Alpine brands. Sure they are expensive but if u want good quality thats the way to go. if u dont want quality and just wanna chuck any shitty head unit into a car then thats when you begin to run into problems.

If u run a second battery the headunit doesnt have to work as hard, therefore it doesnt overheat. its the same as having a thumping system and the dash and in-car lights dim and brighten to the beat.

And you are right about power to the head unit. I was having issues with my stereo and found that the power cable was getting supa hot, therefore was losing energy through heat, so fixed it by using 240 volt wire, crude yes, but effective - deffinately. Give that a go ronny

you need bigger cable. A mate of mine had probs with his steza but it was sorted when he put thicker cable in there. Theres no need for a second battery unless your running multiple subs and amps.
