water temp = 16-20C (most wear springsuit)
swell = 3ft and under most of the time, but occasional 6ft'ers.

gold coast points rely on SE swell direction, however during june, its usually E and NE. the beachbreaks are fun.

You will laugh your arse off man. Us Queenslanders wearing full steamers becuase we *think* it's cold. After doing a few trecks in the southern states, we don't know what cold is!

Try surfing Canada with booties and gloves, freaken freezing. Gold Coast winter is like paradise. Good conditions without the hundreds of tourists.

haha yeah us queensladers think its cold. i have never worn a steamer befor becasue ive never really considered it to be all that cold. but last winter i froze my nads off more then ever out on those 5:00 jump off's at the spit. so ive gone down the easy way and invested in a steamer for this winter which i picked up 3 days ago. also because im going down to SA. now there its cold.

I remember last winter surfing at Noosa and the local crew were all in steamers. It was 20 degrees. Other places dream of having winters this warm.

I agree.. what's up with crew loving the rubber in Qld? I moved here from SA last winter, and haven't worn a wettie since I arrived. I can understand how people acclimatise to the warm water (and need a springy in winter, especially when the offshore is stiff), but in January I saw two guys wearing full length steamers on one of those 41 degree days. What's up with that?

to block the sun! queensland summer always has UV index of around 15 (10+ is extreme). Its not like I'd ever wear a wettie unless its below 18C

Ok the sun is a problem but how can you surf in a steamer in 30 to 40 degree heat? It's too mental man.

I was born and raised on the Goldie and I used to think it was pretty damn cold on those winter mornings and I would wear a steamer, then I moved to colder climates and I would give anything for the Gold coast version of cold. I cant beleive I used to wear a steamer I thought it was cold!

I remember paddling out one day in July in a pair of boardies when it was 'cold', and bunch of guys thought I was a complete loony! They couldn't believe that I wasn't wearing head-to-toe rubber, but Qld winter temperatures are on par with the warmest SA/Vic summer temps.. it's absolutely beautiful up here. Summer gets too warm IMO.. you start to sweat out in the water. It's even worse further north in the tropics, or some locations OS (Central America, Maldives, etc).

Enjoy your nice winters down there it will be summer here but the water is still around 3 degrees so we dont ever put the thick wetsuits away.
The Gold Coast summer is deffinetly more bearable than Mexican heat, there's no escape even the water is boiling but the locals love it!

yuk i hate it when the water is like that. i went to fiji once and it was so hot, the surf was flat aswell. so i thought i got for a bit of a dip and the water was that hot. it was like having a bath. all i did was stay inside the unit in the air con like that hole holiday. what a waste when i think back on it now.
