ok this is the pic i have as my background.
Don't know anything about it though. I think it is a fairly well known one.
tshelper's background image (posted above) is of a spot named Teahupoo, which is somewhere out near Tahiti, insane wave.

these are some of the best surfing photos i've seen on the web ... purely because they're a decent size rather than thumbnail size.
obviously, they're pro photos though - does that count or is this more for amateurs?

yeah I agree Tim, the pics on that Taj site are sooo good!

it ain't like that all the time though yewwww.. it's certainly heavy most days of the year, but those amazing pits aren't an everyday thing. Also, it stands a little more chance of being fatter in July due to higher tide levels. Best time of the year is Autumn or Spring - you have a greater chance of sizeable swell and offshores, and the tides are still reasonably low.
If you get down there though, there's stacks of waves nearby. Check out Surfworx (http://www.surfworx.com.au) - 99% of the photos in his gallery are from SA. In particular, a nice wedging righthander, filed under folio/landscapes (second pic in). Very fine wave indeed.. if you get it on :)
