So which breaks do all you people surf. I mostly go the Northern Beachies from Main Beach up to the end of the spit. Palmy is another regular.

I usually surf Nazz, Burleigh and Currumbin. Currumbin is my favourite. It seems to have the most relaxed vibe happening. In 20 years, I've never seen any agro there. ( I'm sure that it happens though)

At least beach breaks cut down the crowds a bit. Paddling out through the break tends to put a few people off.

Yep- definitely love the no crowd factor on beachies. Just that damn foam zone that always locks me out...

Lately I've been riding a 1986 Les Purcell 6"8 thruster. Solid as a rock and floats like a cork. It's bloody good fun when the swells a bit sloppy. My usual board is a HIC shaped by Brendan Milch 6"5 x 19 x 2 1/2 swallow tail. Best board I've had to date. What are you lot riding?

I've got two boards, got them both from Dale Chapman. One's a 6"3 squash, the others a 6"0x19.5 swallow tail fish. Both of them are pretty good for what I need. Had the 6"3 for years, it goes really well.

Hey ljw,

That fish sounds interesteing. I'm in the market for one at the moment. At what stage does the swell beome too big for it? That is, When would you go back to your 6"3.

Also, I'm 6" and weigh 80kg. I'm thinking that I would probaly go 6"1 x 20 x 2.5

Does this sound about right to you?

SlickTrigger, once the waves are over about 3 ft I start wishing I had my other board. Depends on the waves though, suckier ones are a bit trickier on the fish. In bigger waves (4ft +) the fish is super fast, but can be hard to put on a rail and spins out somtimes.

I'm a short-arse, 5"6, and the fish is 6" x 19.5. Depends on how fit you are as to whether you can paddle a smaller board, though the width and thickness helps of course. I would generally go about 3-4 inches shorter than your normal short board. Dale gave me a bit of guidance so I took his word for it.

Thanks man, that's a big help. The fish seems to be a mysterious and elusive creature that you really don't want to get screw up.
