yeah i hear ya. the worst is when u have a mad sesh in the morn that last's for hours and you so hungry and thirsty and all u want to do is get back to the shop on the other side. and u walk up the hill and look over the rock to see another padle to get home. that's the worst part. it does only take 5-7 mins tho. its very over exadurated.

i'm scared of sharks!
i've never bothered to paddle across yet, is it hard?
and, are there times when i should avoid paddling across?
don't your arms get too tired after a sesh to paddle back home?
why is straddy so good anyway? is it the only beachie that's like D-bah that can handle size and turn shit into gold?

I would probably wait a few minutes after the trawlers come back in.
They recon they have 10's even 100's of bull sharks following the trawlers back from fishing. Having said that i have paddled across plenty of times and never seen one.
Easy paddle just watch the tides and jump in at the right end. Piece of piss
Don't know what makes TOS pick up that extra bit of swell, any ideas?

well. with d-bah/the spit, i think it's the sand-pumping jetty that's perhaps doing the magic turning small swell into a surfable..
but, TOS. i haven't been there so i can't guess, but it's prolly got something to do with sand-pumping jetty at the spit..
any ideas?

1st off with the paddle, strad is not a hard paddle. it takes me a total of 4-5 mins, so it nothing that is going to kill you.
2nd the sharks, out of all the times of gone to straddie ive seen like 3 sharks. all little ones that probably didnt have teeth but even if they did wouldnt be able to take more then a finger off you even if it tried.
3rd the times not to paddle, if its your 1st time, id probably wait untill all the trawlers come in. they are a REAL pain in the ass and have it in for surfers. but otherwise you sweet at pretty much any time. also just make sure u see which way the tide is going so u can jump in at the right end. its a piece of cake, a 2 yr old can do it all.
last why is gets more swell. i still havent really looked into it. its a pretty comon misconseption where people think it is bigger when really it HEAVIER. that cause of the sand pumping jetty that we are able to have such nice banks. but its pretty much like d-bah, right direction the beach its facing i guess. hope thats helped u man. any more q's are no worries.

faaaark i love straddie so much! i lived on the goldie this time last year for a semester at griffith uni and straddie was the best thing that ever happened to me! the paddle was a bit sketch the first time but not as bad as south wall in ballina. it was always well worth it, even if i was by myself.....walking out of the trail to see a playground of perfect blue a-frame peaks.
never once saw a shark. i live in the states and i went from surfing rad waves all day everyday (lets face it, i wasnt there to go to class) and drinkin crownies at baja at night to surfing twice a month in shithouse florida waves where i see sharks every sesh. never take it for granted.

the waves look fun in those rainy photos, and that's when i would get it the most uncrowded before dark. here's a photo i took on a more typical goldie arvo....
