Hello my new found Australial friends.



After having a few beers with my buddy who spent two months in your beautifull country last winter I have decided that my winter trip this year will be Australia instead of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. A couple of my buddies spent the winter In australia and New Zealand last year and just travelled around and surfed. I am very excited to come discover a new land and hopefully get some epic swell!

I am planning on buying boards when I get there. Any advice on the cheepest place to buy boards/ spots to check out/ places to stay/ ect....??

Hi Scotty,

First let me congratulate you on your choice of holiday destination.
When you get here your first stop should be the Wavebreak island board shop. They have an incredible array of boards (new and used). Also there are several options for accommodation there as well. Wavebreak is a short distance from many hi quality surf spots. Kurrawa and Mermaids to name a couple.

After spending some time here you will want to challenge your newfound skills in the aussie surf. So I suggest a visit to Wagga Wagga where they have a spot called "the beach" which is a top quality location but you may have an issue with "localism". Persistance is the key here. Let the locals know that you are from O.S and want to experience as many surf spots as possible. They will eventually warm to you and your time spent in Wagga will be so much more enjoyable.

From Wagga you should travel to one of the many islands in Queensland where there is a giant reef which runs close by and is very consistent with hi quality surf. The paddle may test your fitness tho.

The next spot I suggest is to try one of the South Coast Beachies in Tasmania. This little known (by outsiders) area is a closely guarded secret and you will find many guys from the WCT getting some practise in here.
