I'm sitting here getting pissed off at the lack of swell at the sunny coast so thought i'd plan a bit of a surf trip.....
I think i've brought it up before but anyone here been to Jefferys bay? Can you fly straight into Port Elizabeth or do you have to go to Capetown first then go to Port E?????
Also what did you think of the vibe of the place? Sharks, locals etc?
Its just a place I reckon I'd not be satisfied until i crossed off my list.
Any thoughs appreciated

Yea, my Mrs is from over there. So we go back pretty often. Not too sure about the best direct way to get there, as we always have to go here there and everywhere to catch up with the rest of the family. But more importantly, the wave is magic. In a strange way, the set up is a bit ?? like Lenox, as in breaks close to a wall of rocks. The wave however is quite different. It can get you barreled as you have never been barreled before. Yea there are sharks, but there are sharks everywhere, you just have to keep an eye out.
Apart from that, i personally like the atmosphere there. The place has a special vibe, and the locals are okay. You can get the occasional dickhead that wants to claim sovereignty, but that sort of wanker is found everywhere.
Take the risk and go for it, and check out some of the other breaks as well. there are heaps t find and enjoy.

yeah thanks mate, won't be until next year, but just planning at the moment.........it looks magic, i've heard the vibe there is mellow for SA standards, i think 3 weeks in a backpackers would be sick over there
Sounds good, but cold and the noahs would have me peaking all the time in some of the more remote spots. Wild country.
BOGGO!

this way will take longer but you'll get a much better experience out of it.
fly into cape town and drive around the cape peninsula. you'll have your camera doing over time in between the many surf spots. Then do the garden drive there. it takes about 9 hours but it's breath taking the whole way. i suggest doing it over a couple days like you'd do the east coast here and surf here and there along the way. there's a mark warren surf atlas equivalent too, so there's a plethora of spots you can choose from.
J-bay is awesome. Heaps of other spots around too. Check out seal point and watch out for the full stop. You have to ignore the shark feeling, otherwise you may as well stay at home. Just don’t surf at dawn and dusk when it’s uncrowded. There are wankers over there but there are more top blokes that are friendly. Like anywhere really.
Do it, guaranteed good holiday.

my main plan is to get the jefferies experience............not really worried too much about the sharks surfing there, so many people surf the spot......i'll check out some of the surrounding breaks but yeah not that keen on surfing isolated breaks between capetown and Jbay............i'm kinda doing it as part of a longer trip i think...........crash out in a back packers in jbay for 3 weeks or so and i reckon i'm bound to get some swell

def wild, but thats why i want to go to Jbay............think it sounds a bit safer than roaming the streets of Jo'Berg
