This might be a litle out of topic, but whenever I go down to the coast for a night, I always seem to end up at places like shooters/bourbone bar and I hardly ever fit in to those places. too much gangsta-look in those clubs.

Are there any good places to go down at goldie where there are heaps of nice chickees and cool people? and are there any other places to go out other than surfers? cuz frankly, i prefer the joints here in brisbane better at the moment.

Try the surf clubs on a good night, Friday nights at Palm Beach surf club used to be good a few years ago when I lived there, I wonder if its still good?

fk I can't remember the last time I went to a nightclub must be 5 years atleast all that fkn noise, over priced drinks chicks that are a 2 at 10 but a 10 at 2 hassles to get home fk that. Give me somewhere quiet anyday where you can atleast hear people talk.

But I always found Billies Beach house quite good.

Also The shark bar at Miami is a full surfer hang out but it aint my cup of tea. I like to go places where peolpe look normal and are employed the shark bar looks like a dressed up centrelink office with it being full of people who look unemployable.

No offense to you sharkbar people.

dude its fucking surfers paradise. you have picked the only two places (and maybe the drink) that cater for wigers, jiggas and all the other gas without sounding racist. there are heaps of places within like 100m2, just look u dumb shit.

surfers is a hole, Ruby Tramp and Berlin are allright for a night, beer garden is good when you are written off and in the mood for a dero night, but everywhere else smells. I would just stick to The Valley if I was you.

Yeah i hear you there.

But I'm 18. You need to do something on the weekend, and unfortunately surfers is pretty much the only place on the coast. Gilhooleys used to run a good night on a regular basis, but since that fuckhead bought it and turned it in to fiddlers green or whatever the fuck it is, its turned into a piece of shit. He needs a bullet. Surfers Rowers isn't bad for a beer but they cost way too much. Tooleys in main goes alright for a bit of fun, but past 12 the only places you can go and Berlin, Melbas because we went to school with the owners so we all just go there... Then thats it. Gold Coast needs something new. Lets all chip in, start a sick little bar and just have quality bands playing each week. We'd make a killing and at worst we would atleast have a fun place to get pissed on a weekend.

IMO gold coast has nowhere for 'locals' to go to...the clubs in surfers paradise are mainly for tourists..

which leads to my constant argument; gold coast has NO culture, its just a big tourist driven slut.

the valley is far better.

The way the GCCC runs this joint is a fkn joke they have destroyed or removed almost every activity for locals.

I can name a heap of things to do that are no longer becaus ethe council stopped it.

Jeez, there wasn't much to do on the Goldy in the three years I was there - the Troccadero had live bands for a while but it seemed to shut down a couple of years ago. I reckon the Shark Bar has lots of potential (as a room) - but you'd need the right person running the show, as it's an isolated venue - there are not many alternative options if people rock up and decide the band's not to their liking (whereas at Surfers they can go from bar to bar all night).

Aside from that, the Cooly Hotel started doing some reasonable shows - but although they had some OK lineups just before I left, the room's far to big for smaller bands (only suitable for large headliners).

Although it seems like a great idea yewwww, running a live venue is a lot of hard work and unfortunately most pub owners are only interested in taking on new projects (such as live band nights) if they sell a lot of beer and make some decent coin. There's a lot of inherent 'baggage' that live venues have to take on, such as likely noise complaints from local residents, PA hire, extra security, promotion - there's a lot of costs to cover, which can be hard to recoup unless you charge a door fee (which usually turns most drinkers away).

I wish I got to see a few shows at the Patch and the Playroom! By all accounts those rooms were fantastic for bands and punters.

I was only kidding about it Ben.

But i had forgotten about the coolie hotel. I never get down that way because I'm too far north. Do they still have good shows there?

Morning Ben. Welcome back mate. You get any of that soild swell whilst you were on holidays on the offshore island? Pics?

thermalben

Thanks Don - yeah, got some decent waves - but all of the quality reefs are on the opposite side of the island to where the swell was coming from. Surfed one reef twice (nothing special, but t'was solid with sets up to 5ft/6ft), then had a some fun peaks at a beachie to back it up. It's pretty fickle though, so we did a lot of diving (with turtles!), hiking, biking etc. Great place - will definitely go back. Here's a pic of the reef. Would probably be quite good on its day.

It's not a silly idea though yewwww - I seriously gave it some hard thought when I was on the Goldy (opening as live venue), using my music contacts from years gone by. Unfortunately I didn't have anywhere near enough time on my hands, otherwise it would have been great to give it a go. The Goldy could really use a decent live venue away from the tourist traps.

Ben, I'm curious.... Is andymac spelling like a 3 year old on your website purposely? Like is it some new marketing technique you are implementing to target little kids that prefer to use the whole text talk thing? Or can he genuinely not spell? The morning reports are really starting to get to me with his, tonite, lo tide hi tide, northerlie, southerlie and whatever else he says..
