nah didnt really get any other pics of me cause we didnt surf that spot again really and we got all those pics off a pro photog who stood on the beach.
ill tell you the story about sumatra now too.
we booked all our flights in bali and the day before we left our flight from jakata to banda lumpung or whatever its called (the airport in south sumatra) but we decided to fly to jakata anyways and just see what we could do. by luck we bumped into this other guy who had a bodyboard. he was with two indo girls and we thought he might know what was going on. we saw he had secret sumatra stickers on his baggage so we asked him about it. turns out his name was kris, one of the guys who owns secret sumatra, along with dean fergus. he helped us get an earlier flight with him and organised our taxi (6 hrs) from the airport to where we were staying. fuckin bullshit scary driving but the thought of the waves kept us sane when we werent sleeping. he told us to go to this hotel and that he'd be there in a couple of days as he was just buying a new car for journey's to the surf spots.
as soon as we got there we walked down to check the surf which was pretty small but looked like it had pertential (cant spell).
we decided to try and find a driver to take us to all the spots in the morning which turned out more difficult than we thought as absolutley no one spoke english. one of the locals had to chase the one guy who spoke english on his motorbike and bring him back to communicate with us. we sorted something out and went to get a feed then off to bed as there is nothing to do there at all.
our driver arrived at 5 the next morning. it's then another hour long drive to any of the spots so we just said "jimmy's" to him and he seemed to know what we were talking about which was a relief. anyways it was a nice drive through the jungle and along the coast to the spots and we were trying to peek through the palm trees to see what the swell was doing. couldnt really see much, just a couple of beachies along the way. it was pretty clean though.
we pulled up at jimmy's and were pretty happy to see both the right and left both breaking cleanly (blowing out) at around the 4-5ft+ range. everyone was amped after all the fucking around and travelling to see these waves just pumping. we surfed the left all day and went home tired. surfing and sleeping's all to do so we all went to bed ready for the next day.
we scored it pretty good all week, surfing all the spots on secret sumatra and a couple of others we found ourselves, including a really really really heavy right hander which was just fucking sick.
kris got there a few afternoons after we got there and said he would pick us up in the morning and take us to the spots. i think we went and checked jimmys which wasnt working really but reports said the swell was picking up.
drove to A-Bomb and the swell had already picked up heaps, and by the peak of the session it was cranking at around 7ft. easily the best lefts ive surfed.
on our last night we surfed the peak untill we couldnt see the waves anymore it was that dark, paddled in and sat around, all pretty happy with the way things had gone.

Well Aren't I known for being a straight up no nonsense sorta guy??NO??
Overland is the domain of those with lots of time to kill and a sense of adventure and a fatalist outlook on life. Its a hell cheap way to do indo, just learn the language and ditch any attitude that you may once of possessed, cause you will need to be grattious and humble when living on the road. Also be very health and safety conscious when in Indo or any other third world country...
Boat trips are great for those of us who are in the 38hr week rat race, but the real surf trip is a do it yaself 2 month feral adventure

yeah, the health thing would be an issue, you hear hideous stories of guys who just get so sick doing that sort of thing. Malaria would not be fun...........speaking of which Darthy did you take any anti malarial tabs when you were in sumatra?

Fancy you (yewwww) corecting my spelling!!
See what a private education can result in ;)

I'm sure garttious has some kind of strange meaning gaz don't worry. Haha yeah private schools are just so worth the money when it comes to education aren't they. Particularly TSS. Well we actually did not too bad this year. But previously what a joke. You definitely don't go there for the education. Academics that is. There is just more then 1 type of education if you think in a all-rounded world hey gaz.

Nah mate, both my kids are in Private schools, wouldn't send em too state ones.. Not cause i am a snob, its more that i want them to have more opportunities than what i was given
yewwww!
28/02/2007, 09:31 PM
Yeah its the way forward. Depending on the school as well. It's all about and all-round education. Trying as much shit as you can and coming out with as much varied experience.
What school they at gaz? How old are your kids anyway?
