I've come across a few of these arseholes that jump on the site and just use the photo on the homepage to decide if they are going surfing or not. I reckon *all* photos etc should be available to those willing to pay for the service.

I find it a little hard to believe that someone would make a decision to surf based on one single image from one single website. Sure, perhaps as part of a daily scan of all available information (ie several websites), but this site only? Hardly likely...
Thanks for bringing that up Slicktrigger. We have been receiving the same the feedback as you as to how people are using the image.

For sure thermal. Heaps of people do it. They even tell us. People often dont have the time to surf all sites to check if cameras are up so they go to a reliable source.

I'm not saying that they don't check the BC images (I'm sure they do!), it's more so the inference that Burleighcam would be used as the sole source of information for their decision making process. It's only two clicks away to hit up one of a whole host of other sites (Coastalwatch, Realsurf, Swellnet, Surfalert, SurfIT, Brownies, Coolumn Surf, BOM, NTF, assorted other weather information etc) and considering it takes upwards of a minute or two to at least log on to the internet, I'm more inclined to think that websurfers would have at least this amount of time to spend checking out other surf reports.
The only case in which this would be valid would be if they're off for a dawny (in which case, no surf reports are available online anyway - only the CW cams would be useful, light/vision pending, but this isn't until around sun-up at absolute best) - Burleighcam images are normally up between 8-9am, so surely crew have another 45 seconds at this time of day to check out another link or two?
Maybe I'm wrong.. I just find it hard to think that a surfer wouldn't verify the conditions from a host of available sources (regardless of reliability/accuracy issues), especially since it can be done in under 5 minutes.

im not subscribed to Bcam. i like to check it most days. but i dont look at it in the morning and decide whether im gonna go for a surf or not. i look at coastal watch some times if im gonna do that. but id love to be able to support berleighcam and pay $50. but its all to hard. i dont have a credit card or nuthing so payment is hard. PLUS $50 is $50 closer to my next board.

I'm a homesick maggot living in Canada and Burleigh is where I grew up so Burliegh Cam is my savior on those long snowy days when I dont want to leave the house. Canada is so beautiful but cant wait to get back in the Australian waters. The wetsuits you have to wear here are so bloody thick and Im scared Ill be eaten by a Killer whale.

I sort of agree, but then, I don't surf the Goldcoast. I like to see what the waves are like there from a different perspective to coastalwatches, as often, the window in front of the camera is fogged up.
I've ridden at Burleigh once ... last year when I had to be down the coast with my work.
Normally if I surf south of Brisbane, the first place I stop at is Cabarita ... Never liked the tourists and traffic lights you have to contend with since the early sixties.
It's not worth fifty bucks to me to have an occasional squiz at what you guys are riding.

me and my mates are stuck in cold old england at the moment and i dont know wether it is for our own punishment or just general curiousity but we like to check how the waves are back home so the pic on the home page gives us a little glimpse without doing our head in too much

i have been coming to burleigh cam for ages, way before it started charging, it is the only reliable surf report on the net. unlike most of the people who dont subscribe i have reasons for not subscribing. i.e money lol, i know it is cheap, but i drive to tweed 3 days a week for uni (from coomera) then to work the other 4 days, in the mean time i have to pay rent (live with 2 others), phone bills etc etc, its alot for a 17 year old dont ya think?

i just dont work at all. i go to school which if the surf is cooken i get to surf befor and after school. if breaks that are further away that are off the hook like d-abh and over the other side, my dad allways like taking me. only reason i dont subscribe is, i dont have $50. i had a job, but not any more. cuts down way to much with the time spent in the water. i also wakeboard every weekend and have a girlfriend who cant seem to spend 20 seconds not with me, so a job just pisses me off to much. surfing, school and ather things is enough to keep me occupied. and plus, teenage years are the best years of your life. gonna be working for the rest of my life so why not enjoy the time now when u dont HAVE to work. yewwwwww!!!!!
