Who is up for a Burleighcam Surf Comp? Subscribers only to enter, $20 to enter and winner takes all plus wins the prestigious Burleighcam *surfer of the year* title. Booya and co to judge. Everyone to sign a disclaimer so you can't try any of that Public Liability shit!
Two comps. One for surfers and one for lids.

We can do it at the Nortern beachies so as to escape the crowds.

It seems that the ethos of using a site like burleighcam has become a "cult of personality" rather than what it seems to be, an update on pictures of the days conditions and some insight into what it may be like the next day or so....

hey guys, i am in for sure, but i rekon we just do what yewwww suggested, no comps, just go down as a group and have fun, relax, then maybe after a few weekends of meeting we have a comp.

if we all get together we can give each other pointers and stuff, like in my thread yewwww said he didnt like the way i held my board, well im a noobie (well sort of) and he can show me how he does it and stuff. would be a good day.

instead of organising a contest, which ultimately takes the fun out of what we are all doing here, why doesnt somebody organise a surf trip for a weekend of free surfing, chilling and bullshitting, possibly north straddie or somewhere not too far south where everyone can camp and hit the surf easily. everyone could meet each other and surf and have a great time. if you have a contest its only 2 in the water at a time, and who the hell would want to be a judge. this way we can all surf whenever we feel like it. and don't have the hassle of closing a section of the beach.

Sounds great. Me and some mates from school use to do that exact thing. It was just a heap of fun. We held it at Poo Park (Sea World carpark) and we took turns at judging each other. 4 people per heat, a simple score sheet judging system, judging waves out of ten, but we could do it out of 5. It doesn’t matter if the scoring between judges varies because you just take an average of the best 2 or 3 waves of each competitor from each judge. No second chance heats otherwise the comp takes too long to run. We held 3 comp rounds to determine the champ but we can do whatever.


If there were enough people for a booger and a surfer comp we could have the two categories. Even if it is one heat of each and the boogers judge the surfers and the surfers judge the boogers.


I’ve never tried it myself but I reckon you can judge surfing and booging together. It’s just a matter of who looks the best on the waves. Who rips it up the most. And usually comes down to who catches the best waves in 20mins. It doesn’t really matter, and the system works if you want it to.


I still had the 8 singlets my mum made, the wooden score sheet holders and heat time flags but you may have seen a fire on the news about 3 weeks ago in Southport at some storage sheds. All that comp gear was in there, burnt to smithereens. We have to rig up again.


We had 2 lots of 4 different coloured singlets to run the heats smoothly. Singlets, rather than wetshirts are good because one size can fit all. And 3 different coloured flags. Green (heat is on), Yellow (5mins left), Red (all over red rover).


The main problem we found with running the comp was that everyone wants to surf the sick clean early morning waves. (hopefully they are on)


Once enough people rock up for 2 heats, you put all names in a hat and draw the heats and start the comp.


If we hold a comp at Poo Park first, we can then take the comp south of the border to a secluded beachie.


We could get a shade clothe from Bunnings or Crazy Clarks and hook up some new comp gear from somewhere.



Everyone to sign a disclaimer so you can't try any of that Public Liability shit! Yeah we don't want Public Liability being a problem. I'm not a lawyer so I can't really say. I can say though, that the comp is everyone's who participates to make it a comp.


You don’t need to worry about pro's bogan. I doubt there will be any. You do find though, if there is more than one comp held, you definitely feel an improvement in yourself in the way you handle your next heat i.e. the waves you choose and the moves you go for. By the way, you might have been trying to help but please don’t be a real bogan on this forum, no one appreciates it, it doesn’t help the site in any way and it would be good if Kegtalk could remain friendly and sensible. Because forums are anonymous people generally reply back with just as or more stupid responses, which just fills the site with poo talk rather than keg talk.


All that said. I'm just happy for a catch up surf. If anyone else wants to, and the weather is good, they should bring down a breakfast barby feed to cook up with me and CJ. Maybe we could go for a surf next weekend. Poo Park 6am 29/5/04. It will probably be tiny waves again. Come down if ya keen, unless it’s total onshore crap. Bring your own breaky barby gear if you want to. CJ's taking his gas cooker and we will be wearing our Bcam tshirts. CJ will be filming everyone and making a movie for download.

The right side of the south pathway to the beach looks to have the best bank at Poo Park. There's not much swell around though it has picked up from yesterday and we could see a tad more tomoz.

We hung around at Poo Park car park from about 6-6:45am. Only one Bcam member rocked up, which we fully appreciated, but I guess it's just as well everyone else didn’t rock up, the surf was puss. We are going to have to wait for some waves to come our way before we catch up and dominate the lineup.

Yah it was me who rocked up. Need more surf to make it worth it. I ended up going for a quick carve at Nazz for about an hour and a couple of half decent rides came through. Steamer weather for sure though. Next decent swell everyone needs to pack a fat bag of stoke and rock up.
