i went there in 1997 for 3 weeks. it was really good, fun waves for the first 4 days then about 10 days of 2-3 foot and a few more stormy unsurfable days then another swell which was really nice for the last 3 days. The waves are great when they're on but tend to be inconsistent. Definitely not as consistent as indo or as hollow. (although i did get skunked one year in indo for 9 days out of 12.) apart from the stormy days it was quite clean although i believe that crowds are now a definite problem (more so since the bali bombing and an increase in the number of boats). we did have a few crowd problems back then which was frustrating but i heard it's a lot worse now. some of the take off spots are quite small which makes it difficult. hope you get some waves, let us know how you went when you get back.

Hopefully heading to either fiji or samoa for a schoolies trip with some mates when we finish skewl at the end of this year. Would rather be goin to samoa but it depends on the $$$. heaps expensive, iv been looking around and looks like fiji is a bit cheaper. Stayin on nagigia island maybe, anyone been there?wots tha surf like?
Anyone know of any good travel agents that could maybe hook me up with a good deal?

The maldives were sick, got a week of about 4-6 foot all day everyday offshore, sometimes it jacked up alittle. Surfed 6 hours a day with no clowns out, 100000 times better than the Gold Coast because of no fuckwits in the water. Although the swell was at a good time i think as it was dying down on the last day. I recommend it but it doesnt have the same power as here. The lips arnt very thick.
